Gilling West Fly Fishers

Poaching is a crime

Anyone engaged in fishing must have a rod licence and permission of the riparian owner and or the owner of the fishing rights. Anyone removing fish from Gilling Beck without these permissions is committing a crime which can result in confiscation of equipment and a hefty fine.

The Volunteer Bailiff Service

Several of our members are trained Angling Trust Volunteer Bailiffs. The Volunteer Bailiff Service operates throughout the United Kingdom and works closely with the Environment Agency and the Police.

Although primarily focused on anti poaching activities volunteer bailiffs also report on rural crime, fly tipping, anti social behaviour, environmental concerns and invasive species.

The VBS is run by area managers who are all retired police officers.

Operation TRAVERSE is ongoing and targets poaching and fish theft.

Rural Watch

North Yorkshire Police run a community network to help prevent rural crime. Our members will report anything suspicious they see via the Richmond Border Watch WhatsApp group and / or call 999 if they see a crime in progress.
